Case Study | Hamurana Lodge, New Zealand

Over the past year our lodge has incorporated numerous practices to become an environmentally friendly hotel. We train our staff to be more aware of environmental issues and we will continue to strive for the best management practices to sustain our environment. Our accomplishments over the past year are as follows:

• Placement of signs in rooms to remind guest to turn off lights and televisions when leaving the room 

• Closure of the wing, when possible, during low occupancy so it does not have to be lit heated or cleaned

• Unplugging of electrical appliances in rooms when not in use for a period of time

• Educate your staff to turn off lights and turn down heating/air conditioning when rooms are unoccupied. Also, during summer months, to close the drapes 

• Turn off the swimming pool heating pump during low season and use timer during the high season

• Use daylight exclusively in library, gym, meeting room, bar, and restaurant for as much of the day as possible
